Tea Processing

It’s important to take you through tea processing to understand how tea varities are achieved.

So Tea Processing is as follows:

  • Withering-If a climate is not suitable for withering tea leaves, forced heat is blown over the leaves. This reduces the water content in the leaves.
  • Rolling– Leaves are twisted and rolled so leaf cell membranes are broken and the oils from the leaves are released
  • Oxidation– Chemical process where oxygen is absorbed. This process began when the cell membranes where broken during the rolling process.
  • Drying/Firing– The leaves are dried or fired to stop the oxidation process
