Tea Review

So since I have told everyone about the tea rooms in South Jersey, I decided it would be cool to visit a few (as in Three) and give you my opinion!! Since my opinion is always a valuable opinion!!!

Amelia’s Tea and Holly (Mullica Hill)

This place is stunning and beautiful. Thetea room is located in Mullica Hill’s Historic District and has a lot of history behind it. Amelia’s, named after owners Bonnie Burton and Sue Kruger’s great grandmother, is a vintage Victorian house and decorated as so. The tea room also offers a cozy gift shop with awesome little trinkets, ranging from tea pot pendents to teapot shaped air fresheners.

Atmosphere:

Upon entering, somber but pleasant instrumental music plays in the background. It gives the tea room a homely feel. Porcelain teacups and saucers are placed nicely on fresh clean Victorian style linens. The silver ware is spotless (one of my many pet peeves). The napkin holders even have little engraved teapots on them!!

Menu:

A great selection!! Very basic and simple!! Like many tea rooms, there is a daily quiche offered. All of the cooking is done on premises!! A four cup pot of tea is $3.50!! What a steal!!! And what a selection of teas!! Nine black varieties, 2 oolong, 1 white, 6 green, 14 flavored/scented, and 13 herbal. The choices seem endless.

My Choice:

I just wanted to start the day with a light refreshing pot of tea-so I chose the White Peony. The rarest, most healthful light tea with chocolate undertones (this was the description on the menu).

The menu description was soo true. It was very unique and refreshing. There are very slight chocolate undertones, but you can still taste it!! It’s like having dessert without all the fat!!! And what a beautiful golden color.

Service:

The Service was also amazing!! Very attentive hostess and waitress!! Polite and smiling.

My Rating:

I give this tea room a 10 out of 10!!! Stunningly beautiful with a lot of history!!

Crescent Moon: Coffee and Tea (Mullica Hill)

A very chic cafe but I really don’t have much to say about it. It is kind of like every other cafe I’ve been to. Nothing really jumps out. And to make things even more upsetting, the tea menu was on two small (1foot) chalk boards surrounded by huge chalk boards with lists upon lists of coffee.

Tea Selection:

Probably about 20 teas but nothing at all different from other places. Among the choices were ginger peach, earl gray and harvest tea. Not that I know what kind of tea each was because there was no description.

Service:

Not very pleasant. Seemed very rushed. I walked in and didn’t even have a chance to view the CHALKBOARDS before someone was asking me what I wanted. GIVE ME A MOMENT!!

My Rating:

I give this place a 5 out of 10. My experience wasn’t the greatest. I ordered a small cup of black current tea that was sooooo hot I couldn’t drink it even after 20 minutes. It was placed in a “WAWA” cup but the tea bag was leaking so it was just a mess. I threw it out and plan to not go back.

I have to say, this was not the first time that I have been to this place. The first time was WONDERFUL!! I don’t know what happened? I’m puzzled. I will probably find myself there again in the future but I hope my experience isn’t as bad as it was this time.

Beans Coffee Shop (Woodstown)

This may become my new home!! What a wonderful place located right in the heart of downtown, historic Woodstown. As I walked in I heard a song that I haven’t heard in soo long, it really took me back!! I wanna put on my boogie shoes!!! Awesome!! The walls are covered with the work of local artists which made me happy, because I love when places support local art!! The place looks small from the outside but it is a rather long, narrow building when you enter.

Atmosphere:

A wonderful gathering place. Cozy and quiet. The only noise was the chatter of friends and the music!! Window seating is also available (and you know I was sitting in the window seat!!!). Wi-Fi is also available at this place, so regulars were seen typing away on their computers.

Tea Variety:

Not a huge selection but very nicely done. At least you can see all the tea that is available. There is a bookcase with glass jars full of loose leaf tea. Black, Green, Rooibos and flavored.

Not an authentic tea room, but a much nicer cafe than Crescent Moon.

Other Offerings:

A huge selection of baked desserts (which I have been steering clear of!) and a lunch special selection. This place was voted best lunch!! So it must be worth it. Very reasonable prices too!!

My Selection:

I chose to go for an EARL GRAY…like Captain Picard (Star Trek for those of you who don’t know that he drinks this!!). I am a huge fan of this black tea flavored with bergamont. It was definitely one of the best I’ve had!!

My Rating:

I give this cafe an 8 out of 10!!! A must try for locals!!!

Let me make this VERY CLEAR…herbal tea is not tea. Just because it says “tea” doesn’t make it tea!! But herbal tea still tastes great!

Herbal tea is commonly called an herbal infusion. Made from everything other than tea leaves! Dried fruits, flowers and herbs. Generally, boiling water is poured over the fruit, flower or herbs (or a combination of all) and left to seep for a few minutes.

But herbs and flowers and fruits have long been known to have health benefits if consumed. Did you know that if you place them in hot water you can still have all the benefits!! This article explains just some of the many benefits of herbal teas.

There are so many types of herbal tea…that I will list some here but feel free to check out the larger list!

  • catnip tea- catnip is not just for cats anymore!
  • chamomile
  • blackberry
  • peppermint
  • mango
  • jasmine
  • cherry
  • mushroom
  • ginger
  • yogi
